Ulan Bator – Bayan Önjüül

Gobi Part 1 – Gräslök – by Emma

We are back on the mongolian countryside but this time south in the Gobi desert.

Comparing to our first trip, we found some travel mates this time, jack, an english speaking driver. We’d take almost everybody on board, just to split costs. Two Boys from South Korea, I will probably need the whole week to learn and remember their names, and a spanish couple from Madrid.

On our way here we were talking about things, you think you see when you are out walking in the desert. Fata Morgana or mirage is it called. The most common thing is water. In Luke’s case, I think he will see a fridge full of Coke or Red Bull, a power plug and a wireless network router …

We all stopped for lunch by some rocks. We took a lot of pictures of horses, climbed the rocks, drank some tea and then we continued our trip. Once, we stopped for a short break, and found out that the whole area was full of Schnittlauch (gräslök in swedish)! So even in an desert humans would find something to eat – or at least to spice things up a bit.

Around five o’clock we reached the destination of the day and we moved in to our Ger. Since there are only five beds in each Ger, Lukas and me are sharing one Ger and the others are sleeping in another one. We are back to the simple life, which means, living in a Ger, using the nature as a toilet and no electricity. We are not used to having strangers in our car yet. I mean westerners. Even though they are lovely, I still be prefer our private Ger. *^^*

The family has one little sheep which we cuddled as soon as we saw it, it is definitely the cutest animal I have seen for a long time and we were all like small kids at christmas eve. Overwhelmed by happiness.

It feels good to be back on track again, although we have had some good days in Ulan Bator. I have to mention that today marks the day when I have been out travelling for exactly five months. Yesterday it was Lukas six-months-anniversary. This definitely deserves a celebration. It is a good thing we bought some mongolian vodka and wine today …
